A list of the ten top ranking biopharmaceutical clusters in the US was recently compiled by Genetic Engineering News. The list is based on available 2020 data for NIH funding, venture capital funding, patents, lab space and jobs. San Diego made #5 of the list. Yay! Although San Diego is predominantly home to smaller biotech companies – and thus lags others in lab space and number of jobs – it came in #5 only outdone by Boston, San Francisco, New York, and the greater Washington DC area. Behind San Diego ranked #6 Los Angeles, #7 Philadelphia, #8 Seattle, #9 NC Research Triangle. and #10 Chicago.
