If you’ve been following biomedical news on the novel coronavirus over the last several months, there’s a good chance you’ve heard about the potential for antibodies from recovered COVID-19 patients (convalescent antibodies) to help fight the virus and provide temporary immunity to healthcare workers and other persons at high risk of contracting the virus.
This week, scientists from Scripps Research published an article in Science detailing the discovery of highly potent SARS-CoV-2 antibodies found in the blood of people who have recovered from the disease. Importantly, these neutralizing antibodies (nAbs), which have also been dubbed “super-antibodies”, actually provided protection agains the virus when tested in Syrian hamsters and human cell cultures. You can read more about it on the Scripps Research website.
